The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation is responsible for proposing, implementing, managing, protecting, inspecting and monitoring the Conservation Units established by the Union, in addition to promoting and carrying out research, protection, preservation and conservation programs for biodiversity, and exercising power of environmental police for the protection of federal Conservation Units. The list of embargoed areas referring to conservation units is an administrative sanction and/or administrative precautionary measure that aims to promote the regeneration of the environment and make the recovery of the degraded area viable.
