The combination of public policies such as Rural Credit and the new Forest Code can bring substantial benefits both for modernization in the countryside and for mitigating climate change, without additional costs and without causing disruptions to the current credit system. In a complex fiscal context and at a time when the government plans to implement important reforms, the alignment of these two policies has the potential to help correct distortions in the Brazilian rural credit policy, which is out of date. In this document, prepared by the Climate Policy Assessment Nucleus of PUC-Rio/Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), it is recommended that the association between Rural Credit and the Forest Code be put into practice in the next Crop Plan (2019/2020) .
